22 Mar 2017 Euroa Gazette, Euroa VIC (General News) WHILE National Party representatives were in Euroa last week for their funding announcements, Labor Upper House member Jaclyn Symes was in Nagambie to open the newly refurbished library and announce nearly $500,000 for local healthcare providers. Strathbogie Shire Council received $90,000 for the project through the Victorian Governments Living Libraries Infrastructure Program in 2015, with Strathbogie Shire Council and Goulburn Valley Libraries also contributing $10,000 each. The funding has allowed GV Libraries to create a more modern space with a smaller, fresher collection of books, as well as more seating options and expanded childrens and teen area is part of the completed project. Library signage and gardening work has also been done to spruce up the buildings overall appearance. An after-hours returns chute has been added to better improve customer options and service. Additional computer desks, TV screen outlets and an automatic book scanner have also been included. Mayor Amanda McClaren said this long awaited project is a must for the Nagambie region and one Council is immensely proud of. Goulburn Valley Libraries has done an outstanding job in revitalising three libraries in our Shire, with Euroa, Violet Town and now Nagambie having grown not only in size but also in character as true community hubs for residents, she said. This investment in our Shire shows there is potential to grow. Jaclyn Symes said that libraries had a critical role to play in any town, and the State Government were pleased to provide funding for their betterment. Libraries are an integral part of any regional township and the Andrews Labor Government is proud to be able to add to the Nagambie community through the upgrade of this library. This refurbishment has made a huge difference to this library and the entire township will benefit from it. Ms Symes then moved from the library to NagambieHealth, where she met with CEO and Director of Nursing Bronwyn Beadle to announce nearly $260,000 worth of funding to the hospital and aged care provider. The facility has been expanding significantly over the past three years, Ms Beadle said. This money will be used to make sure that our fire protection systems are made to accommodate for this expansion. Ms Symes also revealed that $231,104 would be given to Euroa Health to replace the Nurse on Call and security system at the hospital, and to install solar panels on the facilitys roof. This money will both improve client, patient and staff safety, and reduce the hospitals carbon footprint, Ms Symes said.
