JACLYN Symes (MLC, Northern Victoria) last week announced a $327,450 investment to the extensive upgrade project at the Mangalore Airport, expected to be completed by mid-May. The $800,000 upgrade project includes resurfacing more than 91,000 square metres of runway and resealing 26,000 square meters of the main aircraft apron, Ms Symes said. She said the investment will ensure the airport continues to provide Northern Victoria with aviation services while also strengthening the airports position as a key pilot-training site. Ms Symes said the upgrade would secure 60 existing jobs at the facility. She said the airport would also continue to generate direct export revenue of approximately $15 million per annum from pilot training activities once the project is complete. This is an exciting project as it will help Mangalore to attract new business and job opportunities to the area, as the airport builds its student base and more services are required to support the growing training facility, she said.
