Aboriginal art installation opened on Monday, Swan Hill Guardian
AN ABORIGINAL art installation along the banks of the Murray River at Koondrook will be officially opened next week with a traditional welcoming ceremony, Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes has announced. Ms Symes said the Andrews Labor Government had invested $35,000 in the installation of three different spears and shields which were designed under the direction of renowned Aboriginal artist Vicki Couzens and made by local Aboriginal artists Esther Kirby and Troy Shackleton. The official opening will be held on Monday at 10.30am at Koondrook Apex Park and locals are encouraged to attend. Ms Symes, who recently visited the site, said the riverside location of the installation is an important meeting place between the Barapa Barapa nation, the Wamba Wamba from downstream and the Yorta Yorta from upstream.
