Big boost for Mt Buffalo
06 Dec 2017 Myrtleford Times, Myrtleford VIC (General News)
MT Buffalo has been given a shot in the arm in its quest to become a year-round destination of choice thanks to $200,000 funding from the State Government to be announced today. Alpine Shire Council will use the funding for a feasibility study on development of yearround tourism experiences. Professional consultancy services will prepare a business case for tourism concepts identified in the Vision for Mount Buffalo, a community driven whole of mountain concept plan developed by the Mount Buffalo Destination Advisory Group, and highlighted as a priority by the Ovens Murray Regional Partnership. The scope of the feasibility study includes determining the potential demand and target market for identified tourism concepts, reviewing the infrastructure and road capacity, and preparing a marketing prospectus for feasible options. The funding is possible thanks to the Labor Governments $103 million Regional Tourism Infrastructure Fund. Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Victoria Danielle Green said the government was excited to help Alpine Shire Council turn their wellresearched ideas into a reality. The Andrews Labor Government has worked closely with the Ovens Murray Regional Partnership to take the first step to awaken Mount Buffalo, she said. One of the key strengths of Victorias High Country is its nature-based tourism and the regions unique relationship with the Australian Alps. Jaclyn Symes (MLC Northern Victoria) said the investment would help put Mt Buffalo on the map all year round. Mt Buffalo is a stunning location attractive to those wanting a winter wonderland escape and just as attractive in summer bringing hikers, campers and kayakers to the heart of our North East, she said.
