Business leader joins Symes on advisory group, Macedon Free Press
MEMBER for Northern Victoria, Jaclyn Symes, will lead the Regional Transport Advisory Group (RTAG), which will advise the state Government on the development of its Regional Network Development Plan (RNDP). Joining Ms Symes will be Gippsland business leader Richard Elkington as co-chair of RTAG, which will drive community consultation over the coming months. Ms Symes said while the final composition of RTAG is yet to be finalised, it will include representatives from all over regional Victoria to ensure comprehensive community input into the development of the RNDP, which will set short, medium and long-term priorities for regional public transport services. The Regional Network Development Plan will move Victoria away from ad hoc service improvements, towards a more coordinated regional public transport network where train and bus services work together to get people where they need to go. The plan will also consider infrastructure upgrades, network extension and rolling stock, including next generation high capacity regional trains to cater for peak demand. Im proud to lead the Governments push for better public transport services for my electorate of Northern Victoria and right across regional Victoria. The Regional Network Development Plan will set out the priorities for our regional public transport network, including infrastructure upgrades, network extension and rolling stock requirements. Mr Elkington and I will drive community engagement and ensure the voices of regional Victorians are heard as part of our plan for better public transport. Community consultation on Victorias first ever long-term strategy for regional public transport will kick off next month. The consultation process will take place over the next three months, and will be a critical part of the development of the Regional Network Development Plan, which will be finalised for consideration as part of the 2016-17 Budget
