17 Jul 2018 Whittlesea Review, Whittlesea (General News) PREPARING for training and matches is about to become a whole lot easier for hundreds of Seymour and district netballers, with new $437,000 change rooms opened at Kings Park. It is the first time netballers have had their own change room facilities at the complex, with players previously having to use public toilets or cars to get ready and leave their gear courtside. The change rooms, officially opened on Thursday afternoon, were jointly funded by Mitchell Shire Council ($302,000), the Victorian Government ($100,000) and the netball/football clubs and netball association ($35,000). They also include umpires facilities, a kiosk, accessible/family-friendly public toilets and a first aid room. Mitchell Shire Mayor Rhonda Sanderson said Kings Park was highly utilised for the sport, with netball played every night of the week. Netball is such a popular sport, especially here at Kings Park where we have M senior and junior teams using the facility, Cr Sanderson. Until now, hundreds of netballers have had nowhere to prepare for training and game day and have had to line their bags up along the sides of the court and get changed in the public toilets or in cars. They now have a first-class change room facility, which is located close to the netball court. Cr Sanderson said the Kings Park Committee of Management made improving netball facilities their number one priority and have made a clear commitment to encouraging girls and women to take part in sport and recreation activities. Along with the new second netball court which will be opened shortly, these new change room facilities will further enhance Kings Park as one of the most valued and versatile complexes in the region and will be a major boost for female sport and netball in Seymour, Cr Sanderson said. We couldnt have delivered this important project alone and Id like to thank Jaclyn Symes and the Victorian Government, the Committee of Management, as well as the football/netball clubs and netball association for partnering with council to make this a reality.
