District community houses to benefit

IN BRIEF District community houses are set to benefit from this years Victorian budget. Tongala Community Activities Centre and Tatura Community House will receive neighbourhood house funding announced yesterday. A $21.8 million investment was being made across the neighbourhood house network with an extra 76 700 funded hours to be delivered each year. The Tongala and Tatura centres will see funded hours increase from 20 to 25 hours a week. Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said Avenel Neighbourhood House, Murchison Community Care and the Rushworth and Seymour community house services would be eligible for the increase. It was hoped total funded hours would increase to 25 hours a week. It will ensure neighbourhood houses can continue to provide the vital childcare, employment, training and volunteering services people need, a statement from Ms Symes office said. We said wed deliver for neighbourhood houses and this budget provides the biggest increase to co-ordination hours ever, Ms Symes said.
