SCHOOLS in the Mitchell Shire and the surrounding region will benefit from extra funding in 2016, as announced across the state yesterday. Primary schools to receive funding include Kilmore ($102,291), Broadford ($178,507), Wallan ($353,324), Willowmavin ($14,515), Wandong ($99,662), Upper Plenty ($12,430), Beveridge ($71,377), Pyalong ($5000), Tallarook ($5000), Puckapunyal ($12,141), Tooborac ($23,852), Flowerdale ($5000), Whittlesea ($133,026), Doreen ($6,648), Mernda ($180,067), Avenel ($14,453) and Nagambie ($64,140). Secondary colleges in Wallan ($175,775), Seymour ($792,142), Broadford ($193,218) and Whittlesea ($780,708) will also receive a slice of the funding. Member for Northern Victoria, Jaclyn Symes, said the funding injection is part of Labors plan to help kids learn, give parents confidence and provide the resources that teachers need. Schools across my electorate will receive a significant boost in their 2016 budget, to help them pay for resources to do what they do best, educate and support kids and give them every chance, Ms Symes. I like to meet with students, teachers and principals in my electorate to get an understanding of their needs and priorities and I know this additional funding will make a huge difference. Under the plan, every single student in every government school in the state will be better off, this is a fantastic outcome for schools. Member for Yan Yean Danielle Green said the support comes on top of funds already provided for enrolment growth, indexation and the everyday costs of running a school. We are building and upgrading schools and helping families with the costs of uniforms, glasses, camps, excursions and more, Ms Green said. This extra investment is exactly what schools in Yan Yean need. It means more confidence for every parent and the best chance for every child. The 2015/16 Victorian Budget is being called the single biggest injection of education funding in Victorian history, providing almost $4 billion in additional funding to education.
