Emergency management funding boost for shire, McIvor Times, Heathcote VIC
CAMPASPE Shire will receive $60,000 in emergency management funding from the Victorian Government. The funding is part of a $1.4 million allocation announced last week by member for Northern Victoria, Jaclyn Symes, to councils to help prepare and protect their local communities for emergencies. The Labor Governments Municipal Emergency Resourcing Program will provide $4.6 million annually to 64 councils located within Country Fire Authority (CFA) districts. Ms Symes said Northern Victoria councils were a key partner in emergency planning and management, with extensive local knowledge and a key connection to the local community. She said councils could be funded individually or in groups, with support ensuring councils are able to adequately prepare for future emergency events and help their communities to become more resilient. Ms Symes said funding under the Municipal Emergency Resourcing Program reflected the State Governments commitment to helping local councils strengthen their emergency management capacity and capability, particularly in rural, regional and peri-urban areas.
