Funds to keep us in the shade

SIX community groups in the Shire of Gannawarra have received more than $30,000 in State Government funding to provide shaded protection from harmful UV rays. Cohuna and District Leos, Cohuna Agricultural Pastoral And Horticultural Society, St Johns Anglican Church, Kerang, Kerang and District Agricultural Society, Kerang Golf Bowling Club and Lions Club of Kerang are recipients of grants from the first round of the Victorian Governments Community Shade Grants Program. Member for Northern Victoria, Jaclyn Symes said Australia has the highest rates of skin cancer in the world and in 2014 melanoma was the fifth most common cancer in Victoria.
