Get your skates on, Albury Wodonga News Weekly, Albury

WODONGAS basketballers, skateboarders, rollerbladers and BMX riders now have more space for their chosen sport thanks to new facilities at James Scott Memorial Skate Park. The facilities were unveiled on Friday by Member for Northern Victoria, Jaclyn Symes as part of a $280,000 expansion that includes a half-court basketball and netball area and skate/BMX facilities like rails and ledges, and comes complete with security lighting and shade structures. The upgrades have been funded by the Victorian Labor Governments $100 million Community Sports Infrastructure Fund that is upgrading sport and recreation facilities across the state. Ms Symes said a newly-laid surface supports wheelchair access and families with prams, and that means everyone can enjoy the facility. Thanks to the vision and determination of the late James Scott, budding local skaters, BMX riders and basketballers now have the space they deserve to showcase their talents, Ms Symes said. Skate parks are a safe place for young people to connect and enjoy the great outdoors, they promote a healthy lifestyle, and theyre free. With summer fast approaching I am sure these new facilities will be welcomed by Wodonga young people who can now hone their skills further.
