Go ahead for new court

29 Jun 2016 Seymour Telegraph, Seymour VIC (General News) by Patrick Evans Funding for the improvement of facilities at Seymours Kings Park were finally allocated during last Monday nights Mitchell Shire Council meeting. As part of the 2016-17 Budget, $270 000 will be spent on the revamp of the current netball change room facility and construction of a second court that will be available for use by the various teams that call Kings Park home, including Seymour Football Netball Club, St Marys Junior Football Netball Club, Seymour Junior Football Netball Club, Seymour Junior Netball Association and NetSetGo. Currently the only club in the Goulburn Valley Football League with just one netball court, the announcement has been welcomed by Seymour Football Netball Club. The decision comes just one week after an article published in the TELEGRAPH which raised the issue, with Member for Euroa Steph Ryan and Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes both in strong favour of upgrading the venue. The pair have spoken in Parliament this year regarding Kings Park, with one of the major problems voiced being that netballers have been forced to warm up on the nearby roadway. Ms Ryan was pleased to hear about the financial backing. Its a great validation of community involvement, particularly from all the netball clubs, because there is no question that a second court and adequate female change rooms are the greatest priority from a sporting infrastructure perspective, she said. However, she also believes more can be done. This is obviously a very good start but I urge the State Government to come on board with funding, were still about $100 000 short so that money is necessary to complete this project, Ms Ryan said. Ms Symes was equally thrilled, saying that the Shires funding went a long way to gaining government funding for the project. Were in a strong place now that weve got Council saying yes, were in, she said. Ive asked the Minister (for Sport, John Eren) to look favourably on this project and hes given me some very positive vibes, so things are looking favourable at this stage. Im very keen to see some female friendly facilities at Kings Park. Licensed by Copyright Agency. You may only copy or communicate this work with a licence.
