Goulburn Valley Highway upgrades in Cathkin

16 May 2018 Yea Chronicle, Yea VIC (General News) A DANGEROUS bend on the Goulburn Valley Highway at Cathkin is being made safer with new guard railing and shoulder sealing to protect drivers. Member for Northern Victoria, Jaclyn Symes, said the $660,000 upgrade will see a 500 metre section of the road between Cathkin and Koriella reinforced with guard rail to shield drivers from exiting the road and impacting trees. With works beginning the 3.3 kilometres of existing gravel shoulders will also be sealed to make it safer and smoother for drivers and cyclists. In the past 10 years there have been eight instances of vehicles leaving the road at this location. This section of the Goulburn Valley Highway is used by 1500 vehicles a day, including 300 heavy vehicles that service logging, tourism and general freight. Were investing in these vital improvements to create a safer environment for locals and industry who rely on the Goulburn Valley Highway, Ms Symes said. The works will drastically enhance safety for the 1500 vehicles that use this important logging and tourism route. Work is set to be completed in June, weather permitting.
