Have your say on the trains, Wangaratta Chronicle, Wangaratta VIC

NOW is the time for public transport users to speak up and have their say when a government advisory group comes to Wangaratta tomorrow. A meeting will be held at the Wangaratta Turf Club from 5pm-7pm and anyone who is interested in making public transport better in the region is invited to attend. Co-chair of the Regional Transport Advisory Group Jaclyn Symes (MLC, Northern Victoria is travelling across the region to take in views from the public about how the rail service and transport in general can be made better. A meeting at Seymour on Friday was well attended where people brainstormed ideas of how North East commuters would be best served by the rail link. Discussions were fuelled by a workshopping session that produced ideas about the train service, its frequency and reliability. For so long North East commuters have been the poor cousins to other regional areas when it comes to rail service standards. Trains have habitually run late or havent arrived at all due to mechanical failures, compounded by a lack of back-up rolling stock when these problems occur. New trains will be built and rolled out across Victoria as part of a government plan and any glimmer of hope that delivery to the North East eventuates would be served well from strong community representation at tomorrows event. The meeting will help inform the Regional Network Development Plan and how North East Victoria might benefit from government funding towards public transport in the short, medium and long term. Its up to the public of Wangaratta and district to show its support for better services in the region by heading along to the turf club.
