Nagambie lands major event from 2019 NACAMBIE has nabbed Australias largest and most lucrative freshwater fishing festival, hooking ihe GoFish Nagambie event until the end of 2020. Thousands of anglers and their families are expected lo be lured to ihe region with 5000 competitors set lo participate for more than $500,000 worth in prizes. Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren joined Member (or Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes last Wednesday to announce GoFish Nagambie. revealing organisers expected more than $30 million to be Injected Into the local economy over two years. Ms Symes said the event was secured through ihe $20 million Regional Events Fund, which Is helping communilles like Nagambie attract major events to drive vl si la I Ion. This fund Is all aboul attracting major events. she said. Melbourne Is great at hosting major events, we always have something to choose from, but we want to continue bringing It to our regional areas. We want large scale events In our region that will support the local economy. The fund Is responsible for more than 130 events in regional Victoria. Mr Eren said the region was well suited for major events. Nagambie Is one of the best places to cast a line In Victoria-this festival will provide great exposure and attract thousands of visitors to ihe region. he said. fioFlsh Nagambie will keep local restaurants, cafes and motels busy, and thats great news for local jobs, businesses and tourism operators. Mr Eren also launched the fioulburn River Valley Tourism Destination Management Plan, funded by a $25,000 grant from the Stronger Regional Communities Plan. The updated plan alms to attract new tourists by growing the regional visitor economy and promoting areas undergoing significant change, such as Nagambie. Seymour. Lake ElIdon and Greater Shepparton.
