International trade delegates visit the valley, Shepparton News, Shepparton VIC
The agricultural powerhouse of the Goulburn Valley was showcased yesterday as a delegation of international buyers and investors began a two-day visit to the region. About 20 delegates from the 2015 food and beverage trade mission visited Tatura Milk Industries processing facility which produces premium milk powder for use in infant formula, cheese and other processed dairy products. Victorian Small Business, Innovation and Trade Minister Philip Dalidakis and State Member for Shepparton Suzanna Sheed met with delegates and Tatura Industries executives for an hour-long tour of the hightech facility in Hogan St, Tatura. Ms Sheed said it was a great opportunity to highlight the economic value of the region together with the importance of water, dairy and fruit production. I also discussed how it is integral that we promote good trade relationships with our Asian neighbours, Ms Sheed said. The groups visit also includes Pactum Dairy in Shepparton, the University of Melbournes Dookie campus dairy farm, and Plunketts Orchards Ardmona fruit packing facility. Member for Northern Region Jaclyn Symes said the region was being recognised internationally as a quality food producer. With their reputation for clean, green and safe products, Shepparton and the Goulburn Valleys innovative dairy companies are capturing the attention of some of the worlds most competitive markets, Ms Symes said. The Victorian Food and Beverage Trade Week involves 240 delegates from key international markets including China, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, the Middle East and the United States, touring Victorias high-tech processing plants and food research centres. Mr Dalidakis said the week was about supporting local exporters. And also providing them with opportunities to forge new relationships that will help Victorian businesses grow and prosper, Mr Dalidakis said. Victoria is Australias largest producer and exporter of food and fibre. The states food and fibre exports for 2014-15 were worth $11.6 billion and the sector now employs more than 190 000 people across the state.
