30 Nov 2016 Numurkah Leader, Numurkah VIC (General News) TWO local sports clubs can now purchase new uniforms, equipment and fund coaching, thanks to a State Government Sporting Club Grants program, announced last week. Invergordon-Katandra Pony Club was granted $1,000 for new showjumping equipment. Katamatite Cricket Club was granted $1,840 for new junior and senior team uniforms, as well as funding for junior coaching team training, with a Cricket Victoria Community Coaching course. Invergordon-Katandra Pony Club secretary Janelle Wardle said the new show jump wings are lighter and easier to move around, and the cups are an essential part of club safety regulations. She said the break away cups will let a rail fall easily, so both rider and horse wont get caught up, if they misjudge the jump. Its easy for young kids to get despondent and lose their con dence if they knock down a jump. is is why we need the best and safest equipment, Ms Wardle said. We are a li le club, its hard to cover costs, let alone purchase new equipment. ese grants are really important for us. Ms Wardle said the club aims to hold some competitions next year, which will bring district clubs together. It gives our riders a goal to practise and ride at home, and encourages them to become be er riders. Northern Victoria MP, Jaclyn Symes, said the clubs were part of a grant roll-out across 20 sporting clubs in the states north. Ms Symes said country grassroots clubs are the heart of local communities which keep towns connected, kids happy and healthy. Grassroots clubs are at the heart and soul of many local communities in northern Victoria, where people get together and embrace a healthy and active lifestyle, Ms Symes said.
