Junior Landcare and Biodiversity Grants now open
20 Jun 2018 Mansfield Courier, Mansfield VIC (General News)
THE Government has announced $400,000 in funding for Junior Landcare and Biodiversity Grants to help kids across the state protect Victorias environment.
Jaclyn Symes (MLC, Northern Victoria) is encouraging local groups to apply for the fund, which is open to Victorian schools, kindergartens, childcare centres, Scouts, Guides and youth groups.
Grants of up to $5000 will be available to fund projects that boost biodiversity through the development, improvement or restoration of habitat for Victorias native plants and animals.
Grants will also be available for programs that engage or educate young people to value and actively care for Victorias natural environment.
The grants will encourage young people across Victoria to learn more about the environment through outdoor, hands-on activities.
These grants are an important tool for protecting our natural environment at a grassroots level, Ms Symes said.
Young people across Northern Victoria will get hands-on experience and learn about the world beyond the classroom.
These grants will help us deliver our ambitious environmental agenda, while encouraging young people to connect with the local environment.
The grants will be administered by Landcare Australia as part of their Junior Landcare program, in partnership with the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP).
