13 Dec 2017 Benalla Ensign, Benalla VIC (General News) Landcare groups in Glenrowan and Greta Valley have been awarded Victorian Government grants aimed at helping to preserve Northern Victorias natural environment. The state government is helping to fund several projects across Victorias northeast with more than $175 000 in grants allocated to the region. The Greta Valley Landcare Group will receive more than $7000 for a community education project providing field days and workshops on vegetation and habitat enhancements for new landholders. Warby Range Landcare Group in Glenrowan will receive a $500 grant to use towards maintenance projects. State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes recently announced the funding from the Victorian Landcare Grants program, which aims to help local landcare and environmental volunteer groups with priority projects. As well as local staff, support and maintenance, larger grants have been allocated to local projects that look to improve biodiversity through revegetation, and remnant vegetation enhancement and protection. In Northern Victoria we have some of the hardest working local environmental groups in the state and I am pleased that Labor has again supported them to improve our environment, Ms Symes said. We need to take great care of our natural environment and the unique biodiversity of this part of the world. Ensuring our volunteers and community groups are well supported in their amazing work is vital and the grants program provides funding for these groups to undertake on-ground works that contribute to the improvement and protection of the regions natural resources. Funding also supports projects that: Promote innovation; Build capacity through activities for land stewardship and on-ground change; and Require start-up funding and maintenance grants to ensure a strong Landcare base across the state.
