Making a splash for Wallan, North Central Review (Kilmore) Macedon Free Press (Kilmore)
A SPLASH pad and upgrade for Wallans Hadfield Park could be a step closer with the strong support of Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes. Speaking in Parliament recently, Ms Symes urged the Minister for Local Government Natalie Hutchins to visit the park and consider the merits of the project with Wallans predicted population growth. Wallan has quite a young population, Symes said. They have told me that they would really like to see investment in community infrastructure and the things that will enhance the liveability of their town. Mitchell Shire Council has submitted an application to the Interface Growth Fund for consideration by the minister in relation to improvements to Hadfield Park. The park looks a little tired, it has equipment form the 1990s and it is overdue for some attention. The plan the council has in mind is to rejuvenate the park with a fantastic play space, Ms Symes said. I am keen to support the redevelopment of Hadfield Park with a focus on young families and social connectivity. A water play facility has previously been identified in the Mitchell Shires Aquatic Strategy, and the project is closer to becoming a reality if it is successful in gaining funding from Labors Interface Growth Fund. We know from community consultation undertaken as part of the Wallan Structure Plan, and the Aquatics Strategy, that there is enthusiasm for Hadfield Park to be a premier park with increased community facilities and better places for families to congregate and spend time together, Mitchell Shire Council CEO Rebecca McKenzie said.
