20 Dec 2017 Seymour Telegraph, Seymour VIC (General News) Works have started on the construction of a new roundabout at the Seymour-Tooborac Road/ Hume Fwy interchange which will help to make it safer and prevent crashes, according to Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes. The Victorian Governments $3.24 million package of safety improvements includes a new roundabout, improved line markings and new street lighting to create better visibility and safer local road access to Sungarrin Rd. These works, Ms Symes said, will improve the safety of the northbound off-ramp, which is currently steep and causes drivers to exit at high speed, while the addition of street lighting will help to address night-time crashes. In the past 10 years, the intersection has recorded nine accidents, leaving six people seriously injured. Labor is committed to saving lives and preventing injuries on country roads, thats why we are improving safety at the SeymourTooborac Rd/Hume Fwy interchange, Ms Symes said. The improvements were making will allow all drivers to safely travel through this connection preventing crashes. There will be some delays and congestion during peak times while construction is under way. North-bound vehicles wishing to exit at this intersection will need to travel 10 km further north and exit at the next interchange before heading back to Seymour via the Goulburn Valley Hwy. The exit ramp will be open under traffic management throughout these initial works to December. The entire project is expected to be complete by mid-2018. The safety improvements are part of the Victorian Governments Towards Zero Strategy and Action Plan, which aims to reduce the number of lives lost on Victorian roads by 20 per cent and serious injuries by 15 per cent by 2020.
