AVENEL and Nagambie primary schools are among 56 schools to receive specialist maths and science teachers as part of the State Governments 2016-17 Primary Mathematics and Science Specialists initiative. Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said the initiative is part of Education State reforms, and aims to build teacher capacity and boost primary students achievement. Under the initiative, teachers will receive two years of training and support to become subject area specialists in maths and science to work alongside other teachers in Victorian government schools. Quality education is at the heart of our states future and it is exciting to see this initiative deliver to country Victoria, Ms Symes said. The initiative will be supported by a number of other Education State reforms targeting science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), ensuring Victorian students are equipped with the skills that industries want and abilities employers expect.
