State bankrolls new bid for all year Mt Buffalo visitation MT Buffalo has been given a shot in the arm in its quest to become a year-round destination of choice thanks to $200,000 funding from the State Government to be announced today. Alpine Shire Council will use the funding for a feasibility study on development of yearround tourism experiences. Professional consultancy services will prepare a business case for tourism concepts identified in the Vision for Mount Buffalo a community driven whole of mountain concept plan developed by the Mount Buffalo Destination Advisory Group, and highlighted as a priority by the Ovens Murray Regional Partnership. The scope of the feasibility study includes determining the potential demand and target market for identified tourism concepts, reviewing the infrastructure and road capacity, and preparing a marketing prospectus for feasible options. Mount Buffalo attracts an estimated 181,000 visitors each year despite not yet taking advantage of all the potential tourism experiences it could offer. The Victorian High Country is a leader in sustaining and growing business and employment opportunities associated with nature-based and recreational activities, and increasing visitation. The funding is possible thanks to the Labor Governments $103 million Regional Tourism Infrastructure Fund, designed to help grow and realise the potential of regional Victorias visitor economy which attracts more than 14 million domestic and international visitors every year. Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Victoria Danielle Green said the government was excited to help Alpine Shire Council turn their wellresearched ideas into a reality. Jaclyn Symes (MLC, Northern Victoria) said the investment would help put Mt Buffalo on the map all year round. Mt Buffalo is a stunning location attractive to those wanting a winter wonderland escape and just as attractive in summer bringing hikers, campers and kayakers to the heart of our North East, she said.
