05 Mar 2018 Wangaratta Chronicle, Wangaratta VIC (General News)
KEY stakeholders in the North East rail line upgrade will have a briefing on its progress from Victorian Transport Minister Jacinta Allan and Jaclyn Symes (MLC, Northern Victoria) at Benalla today. A government spokesperson said Ms Allan will provide an update from the Victorian Government on the work needed to upgrade the North East line and the status of negotiations with the Federal Government. Cathy McGowan (MHR, Indi) said she was looking forward to hearing the Victorian Governments plans to improve the experience for passengers on the line. I have also called upon V/Line to make public an interim plan for the delivery of services on the North East rail line while upgrade works are underway, Ms McGowan said. Im hoping Mondays briefing will provide an indication of the format and timetable of the community consultation that must follow the public release of the scope of works for the rail line upgrade. It is also an opportunity to get together after this weeks announcement of the new Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Michael McCormack. I have written to Minister McCormack seeking a meeting with him and his staff as soon as possible to discuss the status of the North East rail track upgrade.
