04 Sep 2018 Whittlesea Review, Whittlesea (General News) A new netball court at Seymours Kings Park is ready for action, providing much-needed extra space for training and matches for the hundreds of local players who use the facility each week. The second court and flood lighting, which is located next to the existing netball court, will allow the more than 200 senior and junior players who use Kings Park better access to quality netball facilities. It also complements a new change room and kiosk which were opened near the courts last month. Mitchell Shire Mayor Rhonda Sanderson said one netball court was simply not enough to cater for demand. Netball is such a popular sport across Victoria, and particularly at Kings Park where senior and junior teams have been trying to share court time for far too long Cr Sanderson said. This new court will significantly assist on game day, will make training sessions much more manageable, and will further encourage our community to keep active by providing them with a quality facility to improve their health and wellbeing. Cr Sanderson said the Kings Park Committee of Management had made improving netball facilities their number one priority and had made a clear commitment to encouraging girls and women to take part in sport and recreation activities. This project is yet another excellent example of how we can all work together to deliver fantastic outcomes for our communities of today and for our communities of the future, Cr Sanderson said. I would like to sincerely thank the Victorian Government and local member Jaclyn Symes for their support of this project, as well as all the clubs and the Committee of Management for their support and cooperation while these works have been undertaken. The new netbatt court and lighting was jointly funded by Mitchell Shire Council, the Victorian Governments Country Football and Netball Program, and the clubs, with in-kind support from the Committee of Management. Member for Northern Victoria, Jaclyn Symes said that Kings Park is the home of netball in Seymour. Sports clubs are the heart and soul of country Victoria and the investment in Kings Park is making sport and recreation more accessible, welcoming and inclusive, Ms Symes said. Across Victoria weve already invested $420 million in community sport and recreation facilities, and thats why were investing almost half a billion dollars in our 2018/19 Budget to ensure sport and active recreation goes from strength to strength. Ms Symes acknowledged Milchell Shire Council and the local user groups for their support and financial contribution to the project.
