06 Sep 2017 Benalla Ensign, Benalla VIC (General News)
The Victorian Government has installed new boom gates and flashing lights at the Cemetery Rd level crossing in Benalla boosting safety for motorists, passengers and the local farming communities that use it. The new boom gates and lights were funded through the Labor Governments Safer Country Crossings Program and provide a barrier and better warning to motorists of oncoming trains. Boom gates and flashing lights will reduce the risk of accidents and boost safety for local residents, motorists and train passengers at this level crossing, State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said. Its part of our $50 million investment in crossing upgrades in regional Victoria, to get people home safer wherever they live. The $50 million program is upgrading 52 high-risk road crossings and 25 dangerous pedestrian crossings across the state. Twenty-four level crossings and four pedestrian crossings have already been upgraded through the program. Works at Cemetery Rd were carried out between July and August, with the Labor Government fast-tracking all country crossing upgrades to be completed by late next year. Boom gates and flashing lights will reduce the risk of accidents and boost safety for local residents, motorists and train passengers at this level crossing.?
