03 Apr 2018 The Free Press, Kilmore, VIC (General News) KILMORES harness racing track will be in lop condition all year round thanks to a major infrastructure investment of more than $100,000 supported by the state government. Member for Northern Victoria, Jaclyn Symes, announced more than 150,000 through the Victorian Racing Industry Fund to replace the clubs ageing water truck. The Kilmore Racing Club requires an efficient water truck to ensure its harness racing track at the Kilmore Racing Centre is in optimum condition and complies with industry maintenance standards. The funding will enable the purchase of an updated vehicle and a lf>,000 litre fibreglass water tank. A new galvanised mounting base, hydraulics and pump engine spray system will complete the fit-out. Harness Racing Victoria is also contributing more than $50,000 towards the new vehicle. The Kilmore Racing Club conducts 28 harness race meetings and 20 trial sessions a year, requiring the track to be regularly maintained for racing and training. The track is currently used by 18 trainers with .58 horses and this high level of activity means the track surface needs to be in impeccable condition for the safety of the drivers, horses and the longevity of the track. Investing in a new water truck at Kilmore is essential to maintaining the condition of the track and helping ensure the salety of the drivers and horses using it on a daily basis, Ms Symes said. Kilmore Racing Club President, Dr Maxine Brain, said that being able to upgrade the water truck ensures we can comply with industry track standards and maintain our position as one of the best harness racing and training venues in country Victoria.
