MEMBER for Northern Victoria, Jaclyn Symes, has announced the purchase of land next to Wandong Primary School for $1.45 million securing the schools future expansion needs. Ms Symes promised the school and local community earlier this year that the state government would purchase the land on Wandong Avenue. Having worked closely with the school community and Education Minister, James Merlino, on this land purchase I am very pleased for the students that we can deliver this positive outcome, Ms Symes said. This purchase will give the school the extra land it needs to accommodate future growth in student numbers and provide even better spaces for the children to learn and play. It also gives local families comfort there will be room at the local primary school for their children for years to come. The schools current enrolment is 351 students but this is expected to increase considerably in coming years, as more families move into the growing area. The new land will increase the site by approximately one hectare and enable the school to accommodate everyone who wants to attend. The school has had to relocate one of their playgrounds to fit in a new relocatable classroom so the land will bring welcome extra space. The school is expected to grow by almost 100 students over the next 10 years. Ms Symes said the school will also receive $99,662 in equity funding this year through the Education State program.
