Bells, lights and boom-gates will be installed at two dangerous rail crossings in Avenel and Mangalore. The much-needed safety upgrades to the crossings on Ewings Rd, Avenel and OConnors Rd, Mangalore are expected to be completed by the end of next year. A further 16 road crossings on the line between Seymour and Wodonga will also be completed as part of the project. The Victorian Government has been busy wiping out dangerous level crossings across metro areas, but its now regional Victorias time for the upgrades. Upgrades to 52 high-risk road crossings across the regional train network will be completed as part of the $50 million program, which will also install automatic emergency exit gates at 25 dangerous pedestrian crossings. Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said the upgrades were a part of the Victorian Governments unprecedented level crossing safety campaign, which includes crossing removals and upgrades, and increased fines for illegally crossing the tracks. These are the most high-risk crossings on the north-east line, and were going to make them safer, sooner, Ms Symes said. Were not wasting a moment upgrading dangerous crossings that put passengers and drivers at risk. The Safer Country Crossing Program will upgrade more than 50 road level crossings and 25 pedestrian crossings on the regional rail network making local communities across country Victoria safer.
