05 Sep 2018 Seymour Telegraph, Seymour VIC (General News) by Alison OConnor Netball court welcomed at Kings Park The second instalment of the new and improved netball facilities at Seymours Kings Park was officially opened on Thursday. The parks second netball court has been completed, following on from the new netball change rooms, which were opened in July. The new netball court is now ready for action, providing much-needed extra space for training and matches for the hundreds of local players who use the facility each week. The second court and flood lighting is next to the existing netball court. Its fantastic for our club and all the clubs that use the facility, Seymour Football Netball Club president Craig Velt said. Both the court and the change rooms have been well received by people outside the club as well. The Shepp Swans players and the (GVL) league were very impressed with it all. More than 200 players use the court each week, including players from St Marys and Seymour junior netball clubs, Seymour Junior Netball Association, Net Set Go, and Seymour Football Netball Club. But until now, training and playing options have been significantly limited with only one court available for use. Mitchell Shire Mayor Rhonda Sanderson said one netball court was simply not enough to cater for demand. This new court will significantly assist on game day, will make training sessions much more manageable, and will further encourage our community to keep active by providing them with a quality facility to improve their health and wellbeing, she said. Cr Sanderson said the Kings Park committee of management had made improving netball facilities their number one priority. This project is yet another excellent example of how we can all work together to deliver fantastic outcomes for our communities of today and for our communities of the future, she said. The new netball court and lighting was jointly funded by Mitchell Shire Council, the Victorian Governments Country Football and Netball Program and the clubs, with in-kind support from the committee of management. Labor said we would deliver this project for Seymour and Kings Park netballers and we have delivered, Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said. Kings Park is the home of netball in Seymour by improving the netball facilities were benefiting the competition, enabling clubs to grow and new players to take up the sport.
