AFTER recently applying to receive one of Victorias retired W-Class trams, the Mansfield Zoo recently found out that they are one of the successful applicants. Upper House member Jaclyn Symes (MLC, Northern Victoria) and candidate for Eildon Sally Brennan visited the Mansfield Zoo to celebrate the news that their application was successful and that one of the iconic W-Class trams will soon call Mansfield home. Staff at the Mansfield Zoo are over the moon to hear the news of their successful application, and cant wait to have their very own W-Class tram. Were hoping that it will add to the attraction of our zoo, said Dave Murphy, co-owner of Mansfield Zoo. The retired tram is one of many to be allocated following an Expression of Interest process run by VicTrack, more than 1500 applications were received with many great ideas on how to bring a tram back to life. Applicants had to demonstrate that their tram would benefit the community, be accessible to the public or promote the state. They were also asked to outline how they would repurpose and maintain the tram to ensure it remained in good condition. Were proud to have found such a deserving home for one of our states retired trams, Ms Symes said. I am delighted to see one of Victorias iconic trams come to Mansfield and thank the zoo for all their hard work in putting together such a great application. The tram is sure to be a hit with visitors looking for a cool drink or hot beverage as they take in surroundings and talk to the animals. The zoo does an amazing job of ensuring that visitors have a wonderful experience with the wildlife and the tram will now provide a historical focal point and rest stop for visitors, Ms Brennan said.
