The synthetic carpet will replace the clubs grass green, which has been vandalised by birds. Twelve months ago when an influx of corella birds severely damaged the surface, only seven years after having been laid down and unable to claim insurance due to these birds being classed as vermin, the club set about doing some serious fundraising, club secretary Fiona Smith said. This paid big dividends for the club and this is a huge result for Nagambie Bowls Club. This will allow the club to grow, providing the community and bowling fraternity with a great venue and playing surface in the future. The Victorian Government will provide $143 000 in community sports infrastructure funding, while the rest of the funding for the $233 000 project will come from Strathbogie Shire, Bendigo Bank (Nagambie branch), DPR Insurance and the club. This is an exciting project supported by the Labor Government that will give the Nagambie Bowling Club, its members and competitors from other clubs the best surface to play on, Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said. This funding boost from the Labor Government will go a long way to supporting the Nagambie Bowling Club, provide year-round bowling without the maintenance and will hopefully encourage people in the area to swing a bowl on the new green. Nagambie is renowned for its beautiful surroundings and people like to enjoy the outdoors, so I am sure these new investments will be well utilised.
