State serves up $30,000 to push regions food festival

15 Feb 2016 Wangaratta Chronicle, Wangaratta VIC (General News) A $30,000 State Government grant will help market next months High Country Harvest Festival all over Australia. Jaclyn Symes (MLC, Northern Victoria) announced the funding on Friday, saying the government wanted to help as many people as possible to the 10-day festival, from May 13 to 22. It features more than 40 events, showcasing the regions food and nature with events held in Beechworth, Benalla, Bright, the King Valley and Milawa, Mansfield, Rutherglen, Tallangatta and Wangaratta. Family events will be a key feature of this years program, as well as wine and beer tastings and the regions finest food, Ms Symes said. The High Country Harvest Festival is a great celebration of country Victoria, showcasing our finest food and wine and natural strengths. Its not just a great event, but a big boost to the local economy too. Events like these keep small businesses strong, and provide jobs for locals. Ms Symes said her government was working hard to grow the calendar of events in Northern Victoria, with this years state budget including $80 million boost to Victorias events war chest, and $3 million for an ambitious regional tourism marketing campaign, highlighting regional Victorias treasures and showcasing the regions.
