Symes brings shading

24 Feb 2016 Euroa Gazette, Euroa VIC (General News) BOTH Euroas Memorial Oval and the Longwood Recreation Reserve have received State Government funding to increase shade in areas of the grounds. Jaclyn Symes (MLC, Northern Victoria) recently announced the facilities would receive funding with $1119 going toward the Memorial Oval and $3314 going to the Longwood Recreation Reserve. The funding was granted as part of the first round of the State Governments Community Shade Grants Program. Ms Symes said 70 organisations throughout Northern Victoria would share in more than $200,000 worth of grant funds to build new shade structures, repair existing shade, purchase portable shade or create natural shade by planting trees. The grants can also be used to purchase hats and sunscreen to further protect the community from the harsh rays of the sun, she said. Ms Symes said that priority for the grants had been given to country areas with high rates of skin cancer and mortality and areas of socioeconomic disadvantage.
