BANJORA Childrens Centre in Springdale Heights is turning 30 and is inviting former staff, children and families to an open day to celebrate the milestone. The not-for-profit long day care centre, which educates and cares for children aged six weeks to six years, will hold an open day on Saturday 21 November, from 10am-noon. Activities for children at the open day will include painting and craft, play dough, puzzles, obstacle courses, a sausage sizzle and lots of photographs for past carers and parents to enjoy. AlburyCity Mayor Henk van de Ven congratulated the team at Banjora on the quality care and early childhood education they have provided for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers for the past 30 years. It is very important for council to be able to offer such a highly regarded, not-for-profit childcare facility that helps to nurture and develop the youngest members of our community, he said. Early childhood educator Nikki Bartlett has worked at Banjora since the week it opened and said: I just love my job. No two days are the same. I always wanted to work with little babies, so achieving that goal and getting to work in the baby room at Banjora was a pleasure. Ive also loved the relationships Ive built with so many little children that I have seen grow from tiny babies into school-ready little people. I love that Banjora takes a really holistic approach, we encourage the children to be involved in nature and even from such a young age to learn about sustainable practices such as planting and harvesting their own little vegie patch. We have a worm farm and compost bin and we get the kids involved in recycling as well. Banjora open day is on Saturday 21 November, from 10am-noon at Banjora Childrens Centre in Springdale Heights, Cardio Drive, Springdale Heights.
