Upgrade for roads
07 Sep 2016 Shepparton News, Shepparton VIC (General News)
A $9 million commitment to road safety in the Euroa area is aimed at improving four roads with a history of crashes. Victorian Roads and Road Safety Minister Luke Donnellan was in Euroa yesterday to pledge the safety upgrades for Euroa-Shepparton Rd, Buckland Gap Rd, Euroa-Mansfield Rd and the Midland Hwy. The installation of wire rope barriers, guard rails, rumble strips, hazard removal, drainage works and improvement to road pavement will be included in the works. Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said the roads had been the sites of run-off-road crashes and the funding would improve the safety of these roads curves so we can reduce the risk and likelihood of crashes. Mr Donnellan said the funding announced signalled the government addressing areas locals know are hot spots for crashes. Nine people lost their lives and 21 were seriously injured in crashes over five years, a Victorian Government statement said. The safety barriers would redirect vehicles that came off the road and away from roadside hazards while audio tactile edge lines will alert drivers that they may be drifting dangerously off the road, the statement said. The improvements, set to begin late this year, would aim to reduce crashes at these sites by up to 72 per cent. Licensed by Copyright Agency. You may only copy or communicate this work with a licence
