21 Jun 2018 Corryong Courier, Corryong VIC (General News) The facilities at the Corryong resource recovery centre and and Tallangatta transfer station will be improved under the latest round of funding from the Victorian governments Resource Recover) Infrastructure Fund (RRIF). Upper House Member for Northern Victoria, Jaclyn Symes, said the second round of the RRIF had delivered nearly l.5 million in funding to develop improved facilities to the region which will benefit local families and the environment. Four local government areas in Northern Victoria Towong, Mitchell, Benalla and Wangaratta have received funding. Towong Council will upgrade its Corryong and Tallangatta waste facilities with 140,000 from the state government as part of its $480,000 project. The upgrade will potentially divert up to 30 per cent of priority materials like rigid and soft plastics, e-waste, glass, timber and cardboard from landfill. Towong will also establish two resale shops, introduce public access to recycling skips at Corryong and improve storage capacity of priority materials at each site. Ms Symes said the local council projects demonstrated the governments commitment to supporting councils build more sustainable resource recovery system across Victoria and help families reduce their waste. Projects right across country Victoria are worth more than $42m and are expected to create 50 new jobs and divert more than 85,000 tonnes of materials from landfill each year, she said. This is good for jobs, improves opportunities for local businesses and the local environment. Applications from businesses and councils have opened for the third round of the RRIF with grants of between $40,000 and $500,000 available.
