11 May 2016 Seymour Telegraph, Seymour VIC (General News) by Patrick Evans Mangalore Airport will undergo an extensive $800 000 upgrade in a bid to improve Northern Victorias aviation services and further develop the sites pilottraining program. The funding will ensure the resurfacing of 91 000 sq m of runway and see 26 000 sq m of major aircraft apron resealed. Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said the project included a $327 450 investment from the Victorian Government and claimed that the initiative would benefit the local community. This is an exciting project as it will help Mangalore to attract new business and job opportunities to the area, as the airport builds its student base and more services are required to support the growing training facility, Ms Symes said. The project is expected to secure 60 current jobs and generate roughly $15 million per annum in direct export revenue from pilot training once the upgrades are completed. The revamp is part of the Victorian Governments $500 000 Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund, designed to support the development of emerging industries in rural Victoria. Ms Symes believes the upgrade will not only have a positive effect on the local economy, but on the airports reputation across the country. With the support of the Victorian Government, Mangalore Airport is being developed as an internationally competitive training facility for the aviation industry, she said.
