The transformation of the historic Yarrawonga Station building into a buzzing community centre is now complete, according to Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes. Ms Symes said the restoration of the 127 year old building would bring it back into the centre of Yarrawonga community life once again. Ms Symes said works on the old station building were extensive, with replacement or restoration of the roof, walls, ceilings and floors. General repairs and painting have also been undertaken, and an accessible toilet and a kitchenette have been installed. This project has revitalised Yarrawongas historic station, making it part of the everyday life of the community once again, Ms Symes said. The restored building will be a community and cultural centre, with meeting, exhibition and activity spaces for local groups to use and enjoy. The Andrews Labor Government wants to see regional towns like Yarrawonga thrive, and thats what this investment is all about. Ms Symes said the transformation of the Yarrawonga Station building is part of the Community Use of Vacant Rail Buildings Program, which provides funding to transform disused rail buildings into affordable, usable spaces for local communities. Yarrawonga Mulwala Development Inc. has taken on the lease of the restored building, which will become a multi-purpose community and cultural centre with flexible meeting, exhibition and activity spaces, Ms Symes said. It will be used by a range of local groups including Yarrawonga/Mulwala Artists Association Inc., Lake Mulwala Quilters, Yarrawonga Urban Landcare Group, Yarrawonga Mulwala Historical Society Inc., Save our Station, Yarrawonga Mulwala Historical Society and the Yarrawonga Community Garden.
