THE beginning of works on Broadfords youth centre commenced at a ground-breaking ceremony last Friday. Member for Northern Victoria, Jaclyn Symes said the youth centre will be built at the site of the former Broadford police station and will provide an integrated space for young people and the community and will host the expanding Broadford Youth Drop in Service. The State Government provided $387,000 for the project as part of its $50 million Growing Suburbs Fund. The project will provide spaces for youth programs, a kitchen, multiuse office space, storage and landscaping, Ms Symes said. Young people make up 22 per cent of the population in Mitchell Shire and providing opportunities for civic engagement, youth support, information and referral is imperative for the Broadford community. This project helps cater for and support the high proportion of young people in Broadford and the Mitchell Shire. Young people in this community will soon have a great place they can turn to for support and information when they need it most.
