The Allan Labor Government is investing in infrastructure improvements to make travelling around Rutherglen’s town centre safer and easier for locals.
Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes today announced a $1.3 million Labor Government investment to upgrade safety across Rutherglen’s Main Street – which will help manage traffic flow in the area and give pedestrians more options to cross safely.
Several new pedestrian crossing points will be installed on the Murray Valley Highway (Main Street), including one pedestrian-operated signalised crossing, as part of the Rutherglen Pedestrian Safety Improvements Project.
Other safety upgrades will include kerb expansions at the entry points to Main Street to slow down traffic, along with improved signage and line marking in the area.
Crews will be on-site in the coming weeks to conduct survey and service location works, which are a critical step in confirming the locations of the new safety infrastructure.
There may be some minor traffic disruptions while this work is underway, so please allow for extra travel time.
The design and construction updates on the safety improvements along Murray Valley Highway will be communicated with the community as the project progresses.
Once plans are finalised, major works will be carried out by the Department of Transport and Planning in 2025.
