SKY’S THE LIMIT FOR WARBURTON REDWOODS UPGRADES

The sky’s the limit at the Warburton Redwoods Experience with works underway to improve visitor facilities, thanks to support from the Victorian Government.

Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos today announced that construction has commenced on the Warburton Redwoods Experience Uplift project, backed by a $2.6 million investment from the Victorian Government.

The project will build new facilities including bus and car parking, an accessible public toilet, wet-weather visitor shelter, safety gate and upgrading sections of the existing trail network.

The upgrade is expected to increase visitation to the Warburton region, supporting the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges tourism sector which in 2024 welcomed 5.6 million visitors who stayed 2.3 million nights.

More commonly known as the Warburton Redwoods, the Cement Creek Redwood Forest is located in the Yarra Ranges National Park and comprises Californian Redwoods. Growing up to 115 metres tall, these trees are the tallest in the world and can live for more than 2,000 years.

Located 90 minutes from Melbourne, the Yarra Ranges National Park offers a wide range of activities for nature-lovers including hiking and cycling, scenic drives, wildlife viewing, fishing, camping, as well as cross-country skiing and tobogganing in the winter.

In the 12 months to December 2024, visitor expenditure for the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges grew 11 per cent year on year to be worth $1.09 billion.  This adds to a record $40 billion spent by tourists visiting Victoria in 2024.

“Mighty in both size and economic impact for the region, the Warburton Redwoods attract visitors who come to marvel at this majestic, towering forest, then stay on in our hotels, fill our restaurants and bars, and visit other nearby attractions.”

“It’s easy to see why the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges region is one of Victoria’s most popular tourist destinations. Whether you’re into wine-tasting and tasting menus, or nature and recreation is more your thing, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.”
